Leiden

The historic city of Leiden is located less than seven kilometers from our hotel and boasts a wealth of attractions. The old town of Leiden features small alleys and side streets where you can wander peacefully. The beautiful canals invite you for a boat trip on the water. The most famous canal is the Rapenburg where you can find the large university buildings and student houses. Due to the many students, the city is youthful, lively, and offers a unique atmosphere. In the area around the Pieterskerk, you can admire beautiful monuments such as the Burcht and the Pieterskerk itself. There are also many parks that adorn the city and where you can enjoy a picnic.

Shopping

Leiden has a wide variety of shops. Many shops can be found in the atmospheric areas: Haarlemmerstraat, Pieterkwartier, Breestraat, Hartje Leiden, and Doeza/Herenstraat. 

Most shops are open from 9:00-18:00 (except Monday, Thursday, and Sunday). With late-night shopping on Thursday and a shopping Sunday on every last Sunday of the month.

Museums

Leiden also offers a wide range of museums. Think of Museum De Lakenhal, Museum Volkenkunde, Stedelijk Molenmuseum De Valk, Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, and Corpus.

Public transport

You can reach the city of Leiden in 5 minutes by train from NS Station Sassenheim, which is only a 10-minute walk from our hotel. A train to Leiden Centraal Station departs four times per hour. An OV-chipkaart with credit is required to travel by public transport. This can be purchased at the machine at NS Station Sassenheim or at www.ns.nl. From NS Station Leiden Centraal, you can easily walk towards the center of Leiden.

If you have limited mobility, traveling by bus is also possible. The best stops to get off are: Bus stop Steenstraat, Bus stop Prinsessekade, and Bus stop Breestraat. You can plan your journey via HTM.

Parking

The city of Leiden offers various parking options, making a visit by car attractive. For example, you can park your car (paid) at Parkeergarage Lammermarkt or Parkeergarage Garenmarkt, which are within walking distance of the historic city center.
